Saint Alexander Nevsky won the “Name of Russia” contest yesterday. As Sergei Mironov, President of the Council of the Federation, Russia’s upper chamber, and head of the Fair Russia Party put it, it is indicative that, out of the twelve candidates presented, Russians chose the only saint. That is a great achievement for modern Russia.
Of course to the BBC (that bastion of anti-Russian propaganda), what was important was not who won but that Joseph Djugashvili (alias “Stalin”) came in third. An article on the contest covered not the winner (or the runner up), but the third place. Imagine, for a second, if this was how the BBC covered the recent presedential eleciton in the United States. The article would look something like this:
Nader comes in third in US election
Former consumer rights advocate Ralph Nader was beaten by the young Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, in the US presidential election.
Nader came in third, despite being responsible for the introduction of safety belts in automobiles, which saved the lives of millions of Americans.
Barack Obama ran a campaing promising political and economic change.
Second place went to Republican Senator John McCain, who fought during the Vietnam War.
Nader was an instrumental consumer rights advocate in the 60’s and 70’s and has now made several runs for the US Presidency, claiming that there is no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats, the leading parties in the US political system. He was hoping to gain 5% in the polls but was denied a slot in the presidential debates run by major US media networks, the BBC’s John Doe reports from Washington.
Nader took on the automotive industry and was instrumental in introducing safety belts in automobiles. Experts believe that safety belts save the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans every year. He has now become an outspoken critic of Washington politics and lobbyists.
Many in America revere Nader for taking on the establishment, which they believe is corrupt.
Obama ran a campaign advocating for economic and political change. He was also affiliated with the 1960’s terrorist movement “Weather Underground”.
He became popular with Democrats after defeating Senator Hillary Clinton.
John McCain is remembered for being shot down over Vietnam and spending several years as prisoner of war, tortured by the Vietnamese.
I believe that what BBC is doing is called spinnig. Anglo-Americans have PhD in spinning. They helped are (Serbian) govermnmet to come to power with this effect. “You don’t want another war, don’t you?” – was the message of pro West coalition’s political campagne that took place last year(May 2008). In the end, USA and GBR ambasadors hosted a dinner where the coalition negotiations were finnished.
They ocupied are media and we (in Serbia) can see “spinnig” every day! Now, the Russians are to be blamed for the gas problem. “When did Russians help us, anyway?!” some people are starting to ask themselves. They forgot WWI, when Nikolay II entered the war only to help his brothers in blood and Faith with no other interest but love!
If only one Putin would come at the head of our Goverment!
Привет из Сербие!
*I meant “spinning”.
